Zayn Malik has broken his silence since quitting One Direction. He said of his decision to leave the band, “It is crazy and wild and a bit mad, but at the same time I’ve never felt more in control in my life.” He added, “I feel like I’m doing what’s right — right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good.”
The British singer made clear that it was hardly a rash decision to quit, and throughout the process he thought of his fans. “I did try to do something that I wasn’t happy doing for a while, for the sake of other people’s happiness,” said Malik. “And that was mainly for the fans. I only ever tried to do it for the fans,” continued Malik, who felt, “I may have let them down in some sort of way.”
Of the the fans, Malik went on to say, “It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not real to me.” But he did quell fans’ fears about the band breaking up. Malik told the paper, “They still want to do it for a while, they’ll carry on doing what they want to do.”
