2013 American Music Awards RECAP

The 2013 American Music Awards took place last night (Nov. 24) in Los Angeles. Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull hosted the ceremony. Awarded by fan votes, the trophies given out that night were easy to predict. Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake, both of whom have had huge years and can boast massive fanbases, were among the big winners of the night.
The show kicked off with a performance by Katy Perry with “Unconditionally”. Other performers included One Direction “Story of My Life”, Ariana Grande “Tattooed Heart”, Pitbull & Ke$ha “Timber”, Rihanna “Diamonds”, and a highly sexual, presidential-influenced performance of “Do What U Want” from Lady Gaga and R. Kelly. The end of the show, of course, was stolen by Miley Cyrus, who sang “Wrecking Ball”. Surprisingly the performance was a lot more tame then her VMA performance.
And then, there were plenty of trophies given out. Taylor Swift was the clear winner of the night, winning three trophies on television (including Artist of the Year) in addition to one non-televised award (Favorite Pop/Rock Female). She was demure in her acceptance speeches, thanking fans and bringing high energy to the stage and also hinted at a new album.
Justin Timberlake also won huge, taking home three American Music Awards. Though he never seemed to take the night too seriously, the singer made light of the evening, having fun and remarking that it was weird that people tweeted their votes.
